The problem

A website can fit on a phone and still be difficult to buy from.

The real question is whether someone can understand the offer, navigate the experience, and complete a purchase comfortably on that device.

At DentalPlans.com, I worked on mobile optimization across multiple websites, focusing on the entire journey customers followed toward a purchase—not simply how individual pages looked on a smaller screen.

The approach

I developed a repeatable mobile optimization framework for identifying what was helping customers move forward and what was creating unnecessary friction.

The strategy required moving away from a desktop mindset and designing around thumb-first, tap-and-scroll behavior.

Interactions that depended on desktop behaviors such as hover were reworked for touch. Core value propositions, ratings, and primary calls to action were moved higher in the experience so customers could understand the offer and find the next step without scrolling through large lifestyle graphics first.

I also reduced visual density. Long blocks of descriptive content were reorganized into easier-to-scan sections and collapsible content.

Distracting pop-ups were minimized, and heavy visual treatments were replaced with lighter mobile-friendly experiences such as swipeable galleries.

The objective was straightforward: preserve enough information build interest while removing the friction that made buying harder on a phone.

The result

Mobile revenue increased by 39% across six properties.

This was the reported result across the group, not a claim that every individual website improved by 39%.

What this means for your mobile website

Use your phone to complete the action you most want customers to take.

Do not stop at checking the homepage. Follow the purchase, enquiry, or booking journey all the way through.

That gives you a more useful view of the mobile experience than simply judging whether the layout looks good on a smaller screen.

It is also how I approach mobile optimization at CTG: start with the task the customer needs to complete, then improve the experience around the business outcome that task supports.

Can customers complete a purchase or booking on their phone without unnecessary friction?
